Central Park Gallery & Frame Shop, 1644 Broadway, (816) 471-7711. Formerly Webster School, this historic 1885 building is now home to a fine art gallery featuring work by highly acclaimed national and local artists. The front lawn includes a large aviary plus a fountain stocked with exotic Japanese koi. Open Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Four Star Galleries, three locations: Town Center Plaza, (913) 469-9494; Oak Park Mall, (913) 492-5777; and the Country Club Plaza, (816) 753-3330. The Midwest’s largest selection of Thomas Kinkade artwork.

Kansas City Artists Coalition, 201 Wyandotte, (816) 421-5222. An area group of over 400 artists who display in Mel’s Art Space. Exhibitions change monthly. Hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. http://www.kansascityartistscoalition.org

Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design of Kansas City Art Institute, 4420 Warwick Blvd., (816) 561-3737. The first museum of contemporary art and design in Kansas City and Missouri. The permanent collection includes works by such internationally renowned artists as Jasper Johns, Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella, Robert Rauchenberg, David Hockney, Robert Motherwell, Donald Sultan, Robert Graham, Keith Sonnier and Deborah Butterfield. A 1,600-pound spider sculpture by Louis Bourgeois is outside the front door. The museum presents temporary exhibitions, performance work, film and video series and art works using new technologies. Massman Gallery, Rockhurst University, (816) 501-4000. Features special traveling exhibits plus local and regional artists. Hours are Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Morgan Gallery, 412 Delaware, (816) 842-8755. Features nationally acclaimed exhibits of paintings, limited-edition prints, sculpture, ceramics and photographs of major and emerging American artists.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak, (816) 561-4000 or (816) 751-1ART (information line). The eighth largest general art museum in the United States representing all areas and periods of artistic expression, including a notable Oriental collection with a Chinese temple room. Buffet dining in Rozelle Court. Under way now is a 100,000-square-foot expansion. Admittance fee during week, free on Saturday. http://nelson-atkins.org

Stocksdale Gallery, William Jewell College campus in Liberty, (816) 781-7700, Ext. 5413. Faculty and student exhibits. Call for hours.

Thornhill Art Gallery, Avila College campus, (913) 942-8400, Ext. 2309. Ethnic art plus paintings, prints, photography and crafts. Lectures. Hours are Monday-Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.

University of Missouri-Kansas City Gallery of Art, UMKC campus, (816) 235-1502. Highlighting student work plus known artists and offering lectures and workshops. Hours are May-August, Tuesday-Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Van Ackeren Gallery, Greenlease Library on Rockhurst University campus, (816) 501-4171. Features religious art of the 15th-18th centuries. Open Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m.
